Cooking with the King

Each Saturday, two of our BVBC Cooking with the King volunteers spend one hour ministering to a small group of residents at Johnson County Juvenile Detention Center (JDC) in Olathe. The volunteers teach the residents how to cook a simple meal followed by sharing a brief devotional and collecting written prayer requests from the youth. It truly is a blessing to share god's love and pray with these young people at a very vulnerable time in their lives. However, we need more volunteers!

Volunteers are required to complete an initial application which authorizes a background check.  An initial physical and a TB skin test are also required.  The TB skin test much be repeated annually and can be obtained through JDC  at no cost.  New volunteers will be paired with a current CWTK volunteer until they feel comfortable with the process.  Prepared menus and devotions are provided and can be used or adapted as desired or volunteers may use their own recipe and devotion.  Supplies are located at the Antioch Campus for those who choose to cook.

New volunteer training and an annual update are required and are currently offered online.  Individuals interested in volunteering may call the Volunteer and Program Coordinator at the Johnson County Department of Corrections for more information or for help with the application or training process.  Jorge Gaona, 913.715.4542
