Sometimes you find things where you least expect them... such was the case for me today. Let me explain...
In the main office at the church there is a jar perched atop a desk. Inside that jar are, to quote one JWes Crockett, "delightful treats." These treats are most often of a chocolate variety, and are somewhat medicinal in value. One can accurately gauge the stress level in the office at any given moment by the rate at which said chocolate disappears. That disclaimer having been made, let me tell you that in recent weeks the jar was refilled WAY too many times! It's not uncommon for many of us, especially yours truly, to walk by, grab a piece of chocolate and proclaim, "I'M A STRESS EATER!"
For others on our staff, the recent restructuring of Sunday School was the root of anxious moments. For me it was preparations for our anniversary celebration. However, following our WONDERFUL worship service yesterday, I was proud to avoid the chocolate jar for most of the morning. Just before the lunch hour, however, I decided to take a piece, not for stress, but to celebrate!
Today's selection was a small candy square with a foil wrapper., Each wrapper bears a "thought for the day" and most are rather insipid remarks like, "Flirting is mandatory." However, as I unwrapped my little chocolate prize this morning, I saw the following quote:
"Success is the sum of many small efforts."
Nowhere in my recent memory could I draw upon a more meaningful quote for how I was already feeling. Many people who attended the service have been kind enough to bless me with wonderful words of appreciation for a truly meaningful worship experience, and I have genuinely enjoyed hearing from many people the specific nature of the blessings they received. But the reality of it all is that yesterday's success truly was the sum of MANY peoples' efforts.
I wouldn't dare to begin naming the people who worked to "realize" the vision of this service, for certainly I would miss someone's contribution, but whether it was working in the "shadows", serving in a technical capacity, leading on the platform or from the pew, or helping with any part of the process, I want you to know that I value your contribution to the bvbcWORSHIP Ministry and I count it a privilege to serve with you.
And... just so you know I'm not making this up...
Blessings,
jph
