So Fresh

Welcome to my Freshman year of High School, 1992.  Enough said, right?

While attending Springfield Platteview High School in Springfield, Nebraska I endured a lot of challenges.  Look at my right cheek bone...see the mark on my face?  That crater wasn't complimentary.  That was my first realistic facial imperfection right before freshman year pics.  Nice.  Good timing.  Gosh!

Taking notice of my freakishly scary hair wasn't on the radar if you know what I mean.  Can you say business up front, and party in the back?  Golfer wearing the metal concert t-shirt to the first tee...can you believe I played High School competition golf this way?  Actually they required us to wear collared shirts on tournament days.  However, I always wondered why I heard chuckles under the breath of those watching when they announced my name to tee off.  One time I was daring enough to wear a white "dew rag" to a tournament to cover my chia-head.  Once again laughter from my fellow golfers soon followed.

At the time it could very well border-line a mullet...what do you think?  The mullet-style is subject to public opinion of being an "official" mullet.

Just for fun I propose your response/feedback if you believe I had a mullet my Freshman year of High School.  You must post either a YES or NO response and explain why you feel the way you do.  Next week I will then tally the votes of yes or no, count between the two, print each response and then by name and explanation mix up votes in a hat and randomly select the winner to receive a prize.  Fair enough?  Now on your mark, get set, go and write your post!

I am shocked that this is even up for discussion! This is the most classic example of a red necked mullet EVER!!! In fact you should submit this picture to be used as the gold standard for others who fear they are falling into the mullet category. SOME THINGS ARE BETTER OFF NOT SHARED!!! Sorry J Wes this is one of those times. Good luck trying to live this one down!!

Gentlemen,

Start your engines!

This model is known as the "mid-70's NASCAR special". It features the prominent middle part and feathered sides with enough "fish-tail" in the back to allow pulling it through the back-opening of your favorite Trucker's ball cap (flat brim included!).

This particular model was made popular by that 70's heart-throb Greg Evigan (BJ and the Bear) and most of the singers in the country-pop group Alabama! While not considered the hallmark of the species (the front is a little long and somewhat reminiscent of David Cassidy) the extra length accompanied by curl in the back is what sets this do apart from the wave of 70's wannabes known as the "feathered set" a-la Leif Ericksen.

Sorry my friends in the "Yout's" (did he say "yutes"), some of these references may be before your time...

Also popular in the 70's and 80's was the "bowl-cut", the "shag" and the "Punk". Had 'em all by the time I graduated!

Yes, there are pictures.

c'mon, dude. You were 15. You lived in Nebraska. You drive a Camero. Of course you had a Mullet. And that's OK, because you're good enough, you're smart enough, and doggone it, people like you.

I had a pretty good mullet my freshman year of college. Freshman year of high school was more of a modified shag.

Survey says...mullet! A very healthy Cornhusker-red mullet, which I am sure was great for keeping that Nebraska sun off of the back of your neck during long days on the golf course. This is also known as the John Daly PGA rookie of the year mullet--grip it and rip it dude!!!

If Seth says it was a mullet, then it was a mullet. I have seen some pictures of Seth when he was about 4 or 5 years old and I have never seen a more blonde mullet in my life. Also if you even have to ask if it is a mullet, IT IS! I grew up in Arkansas (mullet capital of the USA). Admittingly your is not a prime example of grade A mullet. The feathered sides and flip in the back take you away from the breed standard. It is also way too clean and combed. You would not win best in show, but you be in the show. Peace out, redneck.
