Mission Activities for Preschoolers

You don’t have to be big to make a big difference.  We want to teach our preschoolers that EVERYONE, no matter their size, can show the love of Jesus by their actions.  The following are the activities that we have planned for the remainder of our teaching year.  Some months we will need your assistance in bringing supplies.  Other months, simply ask your preschooler how they have demonstrated the love of Jesus.  Let them know how they are helping others learn about Jesus and His love for people by these small acts of kindness.

OCTOBER – SHOEBOX SHOPPING

This is the month to shop for items to include in the shoeboxes for Operation Christmas Child.  Each year, our church joins forces with millions of others to pack shoeboxes full of surprises for children all over the world.  The shoeboxes are collected during the early part of November.  Our classes will assemble the shoeboxes together during class.  We will take a group picture and include a letter to the child to let them know how special they are to Jesus.

*Have your preschooler help you choose and purchase items that will fit into a shoebox.  Bring in by the end of October.

NOVEMBER – FEED A FAMILY

This month many focus on donating food to others.  We desire to collect food as well, for a Blue Valley Baptist family that is in need.  Please help us fill their cupboards this month by bringing in canned goods and staples so they may eat healthy and without worry.  There will be a collection box in each room so our preschoolers can see how the box fills each week by their own donations.

*Bring a food item to Sunday School each week to place in the Sunday School room collection box.

DECEMBER – TEACHING THANK YOUS

Our pastors and directors give so much to our church families.  We are so appreciative that our preschoolers are never forgotten in their teachings of Christ.  To show our appreciation, we will make soup jars for them to warm their spirits during the coming cold months.

JANURARY – GOODIES FOR THE GOOD GUYS

We would like to thank those who protect and serve our community.  Police officers will spend a lot of time outside helping others during these cold weather months.  We want to show the love of Jesus to these people by providing them with hot chocolate and snacks.

FEBRUARY – VALENTINES

Valentine’s day can be a difficult holiday for those who have lost loved ones.  Our goal is to let them know that Jesus always loves them by making them special Valentines!

MARCH – SPIRNG BREAK PARTY FOR SENIORS

Many families get ready for spring by taking a vacation to enjoy some family time.  We would like to spend church family time with the seniors class here at our church.  We will invite the senior class upstairs for a spring break party.  The preschoolers will bake cookies, mix a drink, decorate the room and provide some musical entertainment for our ‘family’ members.

APRIL – YOLKS FOR YOUTH & BOTTLES FOR BABIES

We have two great activities for this month!

1.  We will fill plastic Easter eggs with goodies and hand deliver them to the youth of our church.  We feel it is important for our preschoolers to see that ‘big kids’ continue to worship Jesus.  It also serves as another way to say thank you for all the help this great group gives to the preschool department.

2.  Baby bottles will come home the first Sunday of April.  We would like for the preschoolers to collect change to fill the bottle throughout the month.  At the end of the month, we will donate the money to a group that assists unwed mothers.  Encourage the children to donate from their allowance, find chores for them to do to earn money to fill the bottle or help them look for lost change!  There are many ways to fill those bottles to help a young mother care for her new baby.

*Fill a baby bottle with loose change and bring to Sunday School at the end of April.

MAY – BOOK IT TO THE LIBRARY

So many of our preschoolers participate in the church library reading challenge each summer.  We would love to get them excited about this fabulous program right before it begins by donating a new book about Jesus to the library.  There are several Christian bookstores in the area with fabulous books to choose from.  We will collect books throughout the month of May and deliver them to Ms Fay and her library helpers at the end of the month.  The kids will be so excited to check out a book they donated during the reading challenge!

*Purchase a new book about Jesus and bring to Sunday School to donate to the church library.

JUNE – SOUTHEAST ASIA AWARENESS

This month we will spend focused on missionaries in Southeast Asia. We will use maps to learn where Southeast Asia is, the people who live there and how we can help them through pray and gifts.  We will assemble birthday boxes for the children of missionaries so they can celebrate their special day!

*Bring items for birthday boxes.  We will send a list of suggested items closer to June.

JULY – TREATS FOR THE TROOPS

In honor of those who protect our country, so that we may continue to celebrate the Fourth of July, we will collect items to send to soldiers overseas.  The preschoolers will color pictures for our soldiers to say thank you and remind them that we love them for keeping us safe and Jesus loves them always!  We will pack up the boxes and mail them overseas.

*Bring items to send overseas to our soldiers.  We will send a list of suggested items closer to July.

AUGUST – SOLES FOR SOULS

*Getting new shoes for the upcoming school year is always exciting!  We want to share that feeling of joy with children who are in need of shoes.  From those who have lost everything in a natural disaster to those who are suffering from poverty in America and across the seas, people are in need of shoes.  Send in your gently used shoes or new shoes during this month and we will send them on to Soles for Souls.

*Bring in your gently used shoes or new shoes to Sunday School.
